QUALITY DATA REPORTING
Through its hospital quality improvement initiatives, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) strives to improve patient care and provide quality information to consumers and others. Data collection and reporting through the Hospital Inpatient Quality Reporting (IQR) Program, the Hospital Outpatient Quality Reporting (OQR) Program, and the Hospital Quality Alliance (HQA) are key to these initiatives.
NDHCRI offers the following services to all North Dakota hospitals:
Assistance for Improving Data Collection and Reporting of Quality Measures
- Although other organizations offer similar programs at significant cost, there is no charge for the materials or consultative and educational services provided by North Dakota Health Care Review, Inc. (NDHCRI).
- Measure and submission feedback reports will help hospitals to identify opportunities to improve clinical quality.
- By publicly reporting data, a hospital demonstrates its commitment to making meaningful information about performance available to the public and can encourage patients to make informed decisions about where to access healthcare services.
- Hospitals can prepare for pay-for-performance initiatives (Value-Based Purchasing) through education and technical assistance with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) abstraction tools and requirements, as well as improve their abstraction accuracy.
Guidance in Public Reporting in Hospital Compare
- NDHCRI’s technical assistance in collecting and uploading data to the clinical warehouse will help to improve hospitals’ publicly reported measures.
- NDHCRI will also guide hospitals in interpreting their data reported on Hospital Compare.
Access to Best Practices
- Through its collaboration with CMS, the Centers for Disease Control, and other entities, NDHCRI obtains and disseminates best practices to support hospitals in their quality improvement and data reporting efforts.
