In
the United States,
breast cancer is the second leading cause of death in women. The risk
of
developing breast cancer sharply increases with age. Over 75 percent of
breast
cancers are diagnosed in women aged 50 and older. Regularly scheduled
screening
mammography has been shown to save lives by detecting breast cancer
early, when
it is most treatable. NDHCRI’s goal is to
help reduce
the incidence of late-stage breast cancer among female Medicare
beneficiaries
by developing partnerships between physicians and women to share
information
about mammograms. NDHCRI is continually developing and researching new
material
and resources to help achieve goals for women to obtain regular
mammograms. For
