COMMUNITY-ACQUIRED
PNEUMONIA
Quality Measures Data Tools Newsletters Links
Pneumonia is a leading cause of emergency department visits and
short-stay hospitalization
among Medicare beneficiaries. The incidence of pneumonia increases with
age,
and more than 90 percent of deaths in people age 65 and older are due
to this
condition. Pneumococcal and influenza
vaccines
continue to be underused in the hospital setting—a missed opportunity
to
significantly decrease the number of people acquiring theses illnesses.
The Community-Acquired
Pneumonia Collaborative is designed
to decrease morbidity and mortality associated with pneumonia in
Medicare
beneficiaries. To achieve this goal, NDHCRI offers free resources and
tools.
